Dear Friends of the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting,

The PAS Board of Directors is pleased to announce an open call for applications for the PAS Program Chair-elect position. This is an outstanding, high-visibility academic pediatric leadership opportunity with the potential to have a wide impact on academic pediatrics both nationally and internationally. Individuals from URiM groups or with lived experiences supportive of PAS’s commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment are especially encouraged to apply. The call for applications will close on March 1, 2024, 9am CT.

The selected leader will serve a four-year term: two years as Program Chair-elect (July 2024-June 2026) for the PAS Meetings held in Honolulu and Boston followed directly by two years as Program Chair (July 2026-June 2028) for PAS Meetings in Minneapolis and Salt Lake City. The selected Chair-elect will be teamed with the PAS 2025-2026 Program Chair for two years. As Program Chair, the selected candidate will be teamed with the next newly selected Chair-elect. Position responsibilities and provided support are detailed here.

Background
The mission of the PAS is to connect the global academic pediatric community to advance scientific discovery and promote innovation in child and adolescent health. The program of the PAS Meeting is chosen by the PAS Program Committee under the leadership of the PAS Program Chair to support this mission and to advance the PAS vision of a world with healthy children, adolescents, and families through advances in pediatric scholarship.  By guiding the formation of the PAS program, the Program Chair helps to shape the direction of global academic pediatrics.

The PAS Program Chair-elect spends two years “shadowing” the Program Chair and progressively assuming limited responsibilities. When the Chair-elect becomes Chair, a new Chair-elect will similarly team with the Chair, lessening the Chair’s workload and providing continuity for the Program Committee and the PAS administrative staff. Both the Chair and the Chair-elect serve as ex officio members of the PAS Board of Directors and receive support to attend the PAS Meeting as well as any in-person Committee or Board meetings.

Applicant Consideration In making its final selection the PAS Board will consider:
·       Support for the PAS vision and mission
·       Experience, recognition, and output in pediatric research/scholarship
·       Involvement and impact in DEI-related initiatives
·       Influence and impact of personal DEI lens and/or lived experience(s)
·       Leadership experience and credentials
·       Experience with PAS Meeting or similar scholarly conference programs
·       Membership in good standing of PAS Partner (AAP, APA, APS, SPR) or PAS Alliance organizations (ASPN, PIDS)

Applications may be submitted here until March 1, 2024, 9am CT. Selection will be made by the PAS Board of Directors by April 2024. Application questions may be directed to Michelle Brunoehler.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration and encouragement of qualified candidates for this important position in our academic pediatrics community.

Best regards,
Susan Bostwick, MD, MBA
